Here you will find my short stories and novellas.  I love the short story genre because, for me, short stories are just long enough for me to write about a topic that intrigues me.  And when I have a particularly fascinating topic I’m exploring, the novella is a form that captures my imagination…longer than a short story, but not as long as a book. Both genres challenge me, especially as a new writer.

The first short story that I wrote to completion began as an assignment for one of my creative writing classes at Washington University here in Saint Louis.  Like many major cities in the United States, there is a lot of violence in North St. Louis.  I’m not really sure why there is so much violence, though I am sure the answer to that question is much more complicated than the obvious:  an educational system that is just beginning to rebound, economic and social suppression,  systemic racism, incarceration, etc.  Read Warren Johnson is Standing Here, and comment below.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
